Buckhead Residence

The Buckhead Residence is a three-level single-family dwelling comprised of 10,000 square feet of conditioned space, located in suburban Atlanta, Georgia.  The program includes expansive inter-connected living spaces, five bedrooms, a large basement level car display space and outdoor entertainment spaces with a pool.

The site’s position at the corner of two busy neighborhood streets, and the need to create a sense of privacy within the house, led to the development of a formal motor-court which operates as a buffer between the public and private realms.  The court is defined by architectural site walls that shield the glazing at the main level entrance and living spaces, allowing for a visual connection to the front yard while maintaining privacy.  The cantilevered upper level of the house, which appears to hover above the site walls when viewed from the street, is a relatively opaque volume with wood slat screens that control sunlight on the southern façade.
